Nightcrawler’s devilish appearance and his strong devotion to Catholicism seem to be an ironic blend. He is commonly judged as being evil because of his demon-like appearance, but he frequently finds solace in the Bible.
When co-creator, Dave Cockrum, worked for DC Comics, he proposed Nightcrawler as an addition to series Legion of Super-Heroes. According to legend, DC rejected the character, saying that Nightcrawler looked too funny.
