Evey Hammond

 Background
Evey's name probably originates from the name Eve which means living. In the Bible, Eve was the first woman. She and Adam were expelled from the Garden of Eden after eating the forbidden fruit that grew on the tree of knowledge.

Evey, like Eve, is the first of her kind since she becomes one of the first supporters of the masked revolutionary named V. Also like Eve, Evy experiences a fall from grace and a loss of innocence and naiveté when she first witnesses one of V's violent acts of rebellion.

Another fact worth noting is that the word "eve" means either the day before a special event or a specific time period that precedes an occurrence.
How Evey's Name Connects Her to V
"E" is the fifth letter of the alphabet, "v" is the fifth from the last letter of the alphabet and also the Roman numeral for five, and "y" does not exist in the Latin alphabet, and was represented by the letter "v" instead. The recurrence of the number five and other equivalents of the letter "v" in her name reinforce the connection between her and the freedom fighter, V.
