German chemist Kurt Alder may have been the inspiration for the name of Princess Leia's lush homeworld. Alder was a co-recipient of the 1950 Nobel Prize for his research on the structure of organic matter. Alderaan is a peaceful planet comprised mostly of organic matter such as grasslands and small seas.
