Riddikulus

 Background
Riddikulus is the spell the Professor Lupin teaches his Defense Against the Dark Arts class in Prisoner of Azkaban (2003). The spell is used to convert a boggart (a creature that takes the form of the beholder’s greatest fear) into something that is humorous.

Riddikulus is derived from the Latin word “ridiculus” (pronounced the same as “Riddikulus”) which means something that is absurd. The Latin word “ridiculus” serves as the origin for the English word “ridiculous” which also means absurd or laughable.
